About

I’m Jeff McNamara, a systems architect and the creator of the Narrative Architecture toolkit. My work focuses on helping writers and educators build clearer stories, stronger characters, and more structured creative processes.

This site is the home base for the tools, templates, and frameworks I’ve developed. Everything here is designed to be practical, approachable, and easy to use—whether you’re planning a novel, teaching story structure, or organizing your own creative workflow.

What I Build

  • Story planning tools that help writers turn ideas into clear, workable structure
  • Classroom-ready templates that support teachers and students
  • Character and plot frameworks that reduce confusion and increase clarity
  • Systems and workflows that make creative work more predictable

These tools are shaped by years of designing modular systems, mapping flows, and building processes that scale. My goal is to bring that same clarity to storytelling—so writers and educators can focus on the work that matters.

Why I Built This

Writers often struggle with structure. Teachers often struggle with resources. And both groups deserve tools that are simple, flexible, and immediately useful. Narrative Architecture grew out of that gap: a way to make story planning feel less overwhelming and more intentional.

What This Is Not

This isn’t an outlining system. Outlines list events; Narrative Architecture clarifies the underlying structure that makes those events meaningful. It helps you think about your story in ways outlining simply can’t—by revealing the deeper forces and load‑bearing decisions that shape the story long before scenes are written.

Many of the tools and templates here are designed to be shared freely unless otherwise noted.
